Our History

My adventure with literacy education began with the birth of my son, John J, in the year 2000. I was planning on a mid-life career change and was studying TESOL in Manitoba, Canada at that time. My wife and I exposed him to a lot of language – speaking and reading – and a bit of phonics. By the time he was two and a half years old, he was able to hear the sounds of any spoken word, so we decided to let him sound out and read 3-letter words and he could do it effortlessly! By four he was able to read spontaneously and loved reading any books he came across. Since it was so easy for him, we tried it out with the kids at my wife’s preschool and they also were able to use the method to great effect. Thus started my exciting journey of teaching children to read, spell and pronounce using Morgans’ Systematic Phonics.
